CENTRE-BACK Nathan Cross starred for Brooklyn Under-16s but could not prevent a 2-1 defeat to Dringhouses in the York Minor League.

Brooklyn were on the back foot from the off as Houses launched a series of long balls, allowing their midfield to press forward. The hosts duly took the lead from a long through ball, claims for offside being ignored.

Brooklyn, though, battled hard and equalised just after half-time when, after a five-man passing move, James Barrett crossed for Josh Singleton to volley in superbly from a tight angle.

Goalkeeper Nick Lock, who showed good handling throughout, then superbly saved a penalty, which was harshly awarded for a hand ball against Shaun Harland.

However, Brooklyn tired in their last 15 minutes and their defence was caught out by a through ball, with Lock having no chance to save the shot.

Robbie Butler’s hat-trick proved vital as Brooklyn U15s beat Haxby Town 5-3 in the York Minor League in a ding-dong encounter.

Some excellent football across the field brought a Butler brace for a 2-0 interval scoreline.

Haxby Town rallied, though, and, with the wind behind them, they soon drew level before taking the lead with a wind-assisted goal.

Brooklyn countered the elements by keeping the ball on the deck and in the last 20 minutes scored three times.

Ian Kerr got the first after an excellent run down the wing, Butler got the next, and Harvey Townley sealed matters.

Pickering Town U11s gave their best performance of the season but were edged out 3-2 by Scholes Park Raiders in their cup tie.

At 2-0 down, Isaac Finch, who battled away up front, hit a post, before Morgan Kendrew halved the deficit, scoring from the rebound after his own shot had been parried. Then Thomas Warriner blasted home an equaliser.

However, Raiders got the winner from a corner, Jamie Atkinson’s tenacious work in defence being in vain.

Heslerton U11s beat Holt 5-0 in the Scarborough & District Minor League with a hat-trick from Ethan Smith and a brace from Tom Stockdale.

Old Malton St Mary’s U10s beat Rawcliffe 2-0 in a friendly.

A close first half remained goalless but Saints increased the pressure in the second half and scored through Josh Mann and Nathan Dolphin. Defender Daniel Hill was man of the match.
