BROOKLYN Under-13s sailed through to the third round of the League Cup with a 5-2 win over Bishopthorpe White Rose.

They took the lead when midfielder Luke Scott won the ball on the left and put through central midfielder Josh Berry, who beat two defenders and slid the ball under the advancing ’keeper.

Ben Pickering’s excellent handling thwarted Bishopthorpe and the home side scored again when Berry cut through the defence. Scott then turned in Oli Farrow’s cross as Brooklyn kept creating chances.

Bishopthorpe salvaged a lifeline when scoring from just inside the box, but Brooklyn extended their lead when good link-up play from Jake Ullah and Berry put striker Tom Walsh down the right and his near-post cross was deflected into the net by a defender.

Berry completed his hat-trick after running clear, meaning Bishopthorpe’s late goal was merely a consolation.

After a scrappy start, Brooklyn U12s settled down at Poppleton Panthers and were rewarded with a goal from Gabriel Urquhart.

Man-of-the-match Harrison Whittaker kept the home side at bay, as did fine saves from ’keeper Anthony Boyes, while Stephen Kerr, the players’ player of the match, stole the show with two fantastic runs down the wing and two goals.
