Darts: Star men’s draw in Huddersfield

Ryedale players were to the fore as Star ‘A’ from Cayton left Huddersfield with a 4-4 draw after a see-saw battle in the Yorkshire Superleague.

Malton man Steve Oldfield hit the doubles when needed to beat Darrel Bainbridge 4-1, though Rich Bowes was never given chances as he lost to county ace Ade Newsholme, who had an 87.13 man-of-the-match average.

Jim Gordon (180) put the Star back in front with a 4-1 victory over Mark Wainwright, before Malton’s Rob Umpleby – a late call-up after two withdrawals – put in a fine performance in losing 4-2 to Ashley Taylor.

Paul Bulmer, also from Malton, continued to impress as he swept aside the dangerous Carl Wagstaff 4-1, a 112 finish in the third leg, plus heavy scoring, helping him along the way.

Phil Bointon lost 4-2 to Daz Battye. The out-of-form Pickering man showed glimpses of what he is capable of but didn’t do enough to warrant victory.

Graham’s Elvidge, fresh from a 4-3 debut victory for Yorkshire in Devon, saw off Dave Miller, but fellow Scarborian Oliver Mitchell fell 4-3, missed early doubles costing him.
