Snooker: Simon Weatherill stars against Bright Steels

Malton Cons ‘C’ beat Bright Steels 4-2 to increase their lead at the top of the Malton, Norton & District League to four points – Simon Weatherill the star performer.

Dominic Spiteri beat Dave Burdett 53-33 in a scrappy frame, while Steve Turner impressed in defeating Geoff Foxton 55-42.

The in-form Weatherill gave Ernie Burley a 63 start but gave a fine demonstration of break building to make a superb 72 and eventually win 98-93 on the black.

Phil Hart struggled to get going and lost 85-56 before Roger Ward beat Mal Piercy 93-71. The pairs went in favour of the Steelmen as Burdett and Foxton defeated Weatherill and Hart as Burdett took blue, pink and black.

Champions Pickering Cons ‘A’ drew with their ‘D’ team. Dave King beat M Gardner 78-62, Paul Elgey lost to Andy Porter on the black ball, Porter making a 22 clearance, Lee Taylor made two breaks of 24 to beat Tony Pape, Jim Woods lost to Chris Leonard and Mark Thorsby had a walkover win. The suprise of the evening saw Taylor and King lose the pairs to Porter and Pape.

Malton Cons ‘B’ won 5-1 at Pickering Cons C, Dave Dawson taking the sole point for the hosts.
