YORKSHIRE were beaten by eight wickets in their opening Champions League t20 clash with Sydney Sixers in Cape Town.

The Tykes were restricted to 96-9 after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Joe Root top-scored with 25, while Phil Jaques made 21 at the top of the order.

Former Yorkshire overseas bowler Mitchell Starc claimed 3-22 from his four overs.

The Australians then breezed to victory, scoring 98-2 from only 8.5 overs, with ex-Yorkshire batsman Michael Lumb leading the way with an unbeaten 43 off 24 balls.
