Simon Dyson back on top track

THAT’S more like it – York’s Simon Dyson produced a command performance to push for contention in the Portugal Masters.

After a sketchy first round one-over par 72, Dyson faced a struggle to make headway in the European Tour event.

But a flawless second round 68 not only ensured he made the half-way cut, but the three-under-par score also renewed his hope of a strong finish to the season.

Unlike the first round, the world number 53 started yesterday on the tenth hole at the Oceanico Victoria course in Vilamoura.

He strung together a run of four consecutive pars before making his first breakthrough when he birdied the par-four 14th.

Pars then followed until the second hole, the 358-yard par four which he birdied. The Malton & Norton Golf Club star further improved his score on the par-four fourth and with not a sign of trouble for the rest of the round, he returned to the clubhouse buoyed by a well-crafted 68.
