Tom Sigsworth, furthest right, follows in to score one of Thornton-le-Dale’s six goals in the cup win over Amotherby & Swinton Reserves
Beckett League side Thornton-le-Dale hit York Minster Engineering League team Amotherby & Swinton Reserves for six in the first round of the North Riding County FA Saturday Challenge Cup.
Craig Sunley had a header cleared off the goal line, before a good right-wing move by Craig Barnes and Simon King ended with David Elliot opening the scoring.
A Chris Preston corner was superbly headed in by Danny Russell, while Elliot and Tom Sigsworth added to the lead shortly before half-time.
Elliot completed his hat-trick after 55 minutes and, in the last minute, Luke Hobbs capped the fine show with the sixth goal. Midfielder Tom Atkinson was the man of the match.
Meanwhile, Duncombe Park booked their place in round two of the York FA Saturday Junior Cup with victory in their rearranged tie.
Park, of the Beckett League, were 2-0 up at half-time against Harrogate & District League outfit Helperby United and they made it 3-0 before Helperby scored a late consolation. James Craig (2) and Scott Plowmans were Park’s marksmen, with James Oldmeadow named man of the match.
In the East Riding County FA qualifying County Cup first round, Heslerton Reserves lost 7-0 at Hemingbrough United Reserves despite the efforts of joint-men-of-the-match Tom Harrison and Dan Watson. Union Rovers 2nds lost 3-1 to Gilberdyke Phoenix with man-of-the-match James Halliday on target.
