End of Whitby Town's FA Cup run

Whitby Town’s FA Cup run ended at the third qualifying round when they were beaten 3-1 at Stalybridge Celtic.

The Blues actually took an eighth-minute lead – shocking their hosts when Tom Portas struck after good work by Michael Tait. But Blue Square Bet North side Celtic were level eight minutes later when Jamie Mullan lobbed the ball over the Whitby ’keeper, and they took the lead 10 minutes before half-time thanks to a Mullan cross which was deflected into his own net by Whitby’s Craig James.

Stalybridge made the game safe 20 minutes into the second period when Greg Wilkinson scored.
