Darts: Star shine in loss to champs

The Star ‘A’ from Cayton produced a superb performance to push the National Super League champions, Castle Club from Conisbrough, all the way, despite losing 5-3 in the Yorkshire Superleague.
Both teams recorded 75-plus team averages and shared a dozen 180s.
Malton man John Spoors lost 4-1 to clinical PDC player Daz Johnson. He missed double 18 for 138 in the fourth leg and this proved pivotal.
Jim Gordon (15, 17, 3x180) continued his great form by beating county star Daz Hale 4-1, while Rich Bowes battled hard against ex-world champion John Boy Walton, who needed a man-of-the-match 90 average to win 4-1.
The in-form Olly Mitchell (16) threw 12 ton-plus scores to beat Yorkshire stalwart Chris Gill 4-2.
Missed doubles in the fourth leg proved costly as Whitwell-on-the-Hill’s Terry Temple lost his two-and-a-half-year unbeaten record to Dave Copley, going down 4-3.
Malton’s Paul Bulmer (2x180) missed doubles in the first two legs and never recovered in a 4-2 defeat to Vince Hawksworth. Pickering’s Phil Bointon crashed 4-0 to county star Brian Dawson, while Graham Elvidge continued his impressive form with a lethal 4-1 win over Tony Gregory.
