Angling: Pallister picks a prize catch at Hundred Oaks
12:40pm Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in Sport
Fifteen anglers contested Malton & Norton AC’s Fur & Feather match on Sunday and with 16 prizes on offer all went home happy.
Fishing on a wind-swept lake at Hundred Oaks Caravan Park, Newton-on-Derwent, Brian Pallister earned himself a turkey and £30 with a haul of carp weighing 46lb 2oz.
Fishing across to the island with the 13-metre pole and either pellet or paste for bait, he had non-stop action with carp up to the 4lb mark.
Paul Thompson sat close by at peg five and took runners-up place with 44lb 8oz. Starting off on the pole at 11 metres with worm for bait, he took three small carp and a good quantity of small skimmers.
Fortunately for him the carp moved over his margin line and in the final 20 minutes of the match he slipped the landing net under five specimens to the 5lb mark.
Brian Jordan sat at the opposite side of the island to the winner at peg 44 and put together a mixed net of chub, carp, perch and roach totalling 37lb 12oz.
Once more the York Midweek Anglers match turned into a battle between the cat-food anglers at Raker Lakes and this time round it was match organiser Cliff Dawson who came out on top with a haul of 51lb 10oz.
Fishing out from peg 13 on the Horseshoe lake with the 11-metre pole, he took an all-carp catch with individual specimens to the 5lb mark. Gerald Chalk fished the identical method at peg 15 and was second with 48lb.
Malton & Norton AC begin their winter league on the River Derwent on October 14. The draw will take place at the Union Hotel, Norton, at 8.30am. For details, phone Dave Dunning on 01653 697990.
