Snooker: Shock defeat for Pickering
12:38pm Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in Sport
The second week of the Malton, Norton & District League season threw up a surprise as Malton Cons ‘C’ won 4-2 at Pickering Cons ‘A’.
Steve Turner got the visitors off to a great start with a fine 84-48 win over Lee Taylor, despite the latter’s break of 25, while Romaine Reeves was in fine form against Mark Thorsby.
The aggregate winner last season, Dave King, inset, pulled a frame back by beating Simon Weatherill 85-55 despite a 22 break from the latter, but Domonic Spiteri saw off veteran John Breckon to make sure Malt were sure of at least a draw.
Roger Ward then beat young gun Jim Woods to ensure defeat for the hosts before the doubles, won by Pickering on the black.
Bright Steels won 4-2 at Pickering Cons ‘C’ with wins for the impressive Geoff Foxton, Dave Burdett and Ernie Burley in the singles and Foxton and Burdett in the doubles, Geoff Walker (23 bk) and Peter Scaife replying.
Malton Cons ‘A’ drew 3-3 with their ‘B’ team, with wins for the impressive Steve Beal, John Ruston and Bob Newton for the ‘A’ team and Dan Williamson, John Dyson and, in the doubles, Dave Cottle and Andy Sherry for the away side.
