Young Sam Holtby continued his fine form as he led the Pickering Running Club team home in the Great North Run in a great time of one hour 41 minutes 29 seconds.

Hannah Bosomworth and Dave Ward have both taken part in the half-marathon before and used their experience to improve their best times.

Bosomworth produced 1-46-51, an improvement of three-and-a-half minutes on last year's mark. Ward clocked 1-51-08.

Shirley Tyrrell has been lightly raced through the summer, building herself for a busy autumn. She produced a personal best of 2-02-27. Simon Tyrrell accompanied wife Shirley and performed very well in a rare outing, achieving 1-51-08.

Gemma Clayton set herself the target of running this race in January and has trained throughout the year, including joining the PRC beginners' course. She clocked 2-39-19.

Better weather greeted the runners for the Thornton-le-Clay 10K, which produced consistently fast times.

Dave Simpson was the first Pickering finisher in 50 minutes 03 seconds, his best time in several attempts at this race. Kate Youngs was back on form with a decent 53-45, a minute outside her person best.

Club stalwart Syd Youngson also produced his best-ever time at Thornton-le-Clay with 64-41. There were graduates from the beginners' course taking part. Bev Proctor timed 60-11 and Kat Smith 69-27.
