Hockey: Valuable outing for Pickering

Pickering Ladies lost 5-0 to Driffield 3rds in their pre-season friendly but were happy with the runout, using the game to good effect to find the best position for new players and consolidate the team unit.

Their Yorkshire Ladies League division five campaign starts this weekend.

Driffield, who play a league above the hosts, showed their dominance in the first half, with some crisp twotouch passing opening up the inexperienced defence for an early goal.

Although Pickering looked good on the attack, Driffield’s experience showed, and they dominated the rest of the first half to go 5-0 up at the break.

Following a reshuffle at half-time, Pickering raised their game and were unlucky not to score against Driffield’s on-form goalkeeper.

Good defending from the hosts prevented any further goals while playerof- the-match Emily Hose worked tirelessly in midfield to break down attacks and release Kat Hardwick for some great runs down the left flank.

End-to-end play saw chances for both teams but neither were able to make them count.
