Pickering Town bounced back from a 4-0 midweek defeat to hammer Lincoln Moorlands Railway 7-2 in the Northern Counties East League premier division on Saturday.

Jimmy Reid’s side crashed at home to leaders Parkgate but returned to the Recreation Ground with a vengeance as a poor Lincoln side were put to the sword.

The Pikes had already missed some good chances before taking the lead after 16 minutes when a good move involving Steve Baxter and Dean Craig saw a Baxter shot deflected into his own goal by Lincoln’s Adam Buckley.

Six minutes later Joe Danby doubled the lead with a great 16-yard left-foot shot which flew into the top corner after a good build-up by Tom Reid, Danby, Craig and Baxter.

Lincoln pulled a goal back with their first attack when a left wing corner taken by Buckley was not cleared and visiting skipper Ricki Paylor netted with a low shot.

But the Pikes continued to dominate with Liam Shepherd scoring twice as the home side went 4-1 up. His first came after good work by Reid and his second was an unstoppable 25-yard right-foot shot.

Shepherd then turned provider, creating the opportunity for Liam Salt to make it 5-1 in stoppage time in the first half.

The second period was a much more casual affair, Salt scored his second on 76 minutes with man of the match Craig adding the seventh goal soon afterwards.

Josh Barker pulled a goal back in the last minute for Lincoln.

The mauling of Lincoln was a good response to last Tuesday’s heavy defeat against Parkgate.

The visitors took the lead after 53 minutes when Dean Readman was sent off by referee Ian Patton (Stockton-on-Tees) for bringing down Nathan Forbes-Swindells in the box. Todd Jordan scored with the penalty and within a minute Forbes-Swindells doubled his side’s lead.

Ten-man Pikes were on the rack as Parkgate skipper Shaun Cusworth headed his team further ahead from a Daniel Patterson free-kick and four minutes from time Keir Hannity made it 4-0.

To add to their troubles the Pikes also had Dean Craig, Liam Salt, and Michael McNaughton cautioned to add further troubles for the Pikes who were not helped by some stupid supporters in the Pikes section of the crowd of 108.
