Football: Ryedale Sports Club hammered by Newlands Park

RYEDALE Sports Club suffered a 6-1 Scarborough and District League first division home defeat to Newlands Park on Saturday.

Newlands cruised into a four-goal first half lead with goals by debutant Ashley Townley (2), Stuart Bates, and Kile Fields. Early in the second period Paddy Mancrief, the former Pickering Town player, and Townley wrapped up the Newlands scoring with his hat-trick goal. Ryedale’s late consolation effort was scored by Sam Turnbull.

Ayton won 3-0 at neighbours Seamer Sports thanks to a double by player/manager Steve Roberts and a Chris Stubbings strike. The win gave Ayton seven points from their first three games in the opening week of the season.

Filey Town beat Fishburn Park Reserves 4-1. Carl Hewison put Fishburn Park ahead but a couple of Phil Dickens goals put Filey ahead by the interval. Filey then got well on top, adding further goals from James Jenkinson and Liam Sugden.

Edgehill have just one point from a possible nine possible points after a 4-1 defeat at Eastfield St James on Saturday. The Eastfield marksmen were Nathan Till (2), Cameron Dobson and Danny Price. M Kapinski scored Edgehill’s consolation goal.

Filey Town Reserves lost 4-2 at home to Flixton in division two. Scott Shelton and Lee Coldon scored for Filey while Ian Laing (2), Keith Skelton and Danny Hague netted for Flixton.

In the League Cup, West Pier were well beaten by third division newcomers Athletico 2b 5-3. The visitors powered into a five-goal first half lead through Shaun Goodwin (2), Sam Swift (2) and Ben David. West Pier got going after the break, pulling back three goals by Danny Cooper (2) and Sam Hyde but the visitors held out for a memorable victory.

Snainton entertained first division Whitby Fishermen with the visitors worthy 3-1 winners. The Whitby goals were scored by Phil Raisbeck (2), and Dan Brown with Leigh Watson pulling a goal back for Snainton just before the final whistle.

Hunmanby United lost 2-0 at Westover Wasps.
