ROGER Holmes finished well clear of the pack in the York midweek match on the No 4 pond at Oak Tree Leisure, Huby, bagging 75lb 11oz.
Fishing across to the island with long pole and pellet t at peg 48 he had an all-carp catch that included a massive grass carp specimen of 11 pounds.
Stan Haigh won the race for second with 49lb 1oz, leaving Jim Pearson in third with 37lb 12oz.
Colin McNeil totally obliterated the field with a net-bulging haul of 103lb 4oz in Tuesday’s G B Angling Club match on the Railway Pond at Poppleton Fishery. Alternating between the margins and 10-metre pole line with paste for bait he netted specimen carp to the eight pound mark.
Brian Pallister was a distant second with a level 34lb.
Friday once again saw McNeil employing his pole and paste attack to great effect, this time round top scoring in Westland’s AC’s match on the Folly Lake at Risby Park with 80lb 12oz. Sitting at peg 15 he netted carp to the four pound mark.
Fellow paste angler Brian Pallister once again secured second spot, this time round with 60lb 4oz from peg 17.
Gerald Chalk had the carp purring in Sunday’s Black Horse AC match on the Horseshoe at Raker Lakes.
Potting-in 14 tins of cat food on the 13-metre pole line and fishing a piece of meat on the hook attracted the attention of 36 fish for a grand total of 92lb from peg 21.
Cliff Dawson opted for the same approach at peg four, cupping in 10 tins of cat food to lure 52lb 8oz of carp to the net.
Anglers should note that the Barry Lightfoot memorial match, scheduled to be fished on the River Derwent on Sunday will now take place one week later on Sunday, September 23 at Hundred Oaks Lake, Newton-upon-Derwent. For more information or to reserve a place, phone Paul Thompson on 01653 618602.
