Repeat success beckons for Kevin Ryan’s York Yearling star Hototo

Hototo, who hit the jackpot at York last month, can produce a repeat tomorrow at Doncaster as he bids to complete a double last achieved in 2010 by Richard Fahey’s Wootton Bassett.

Trained at Hambleton by Kevin Ryan, Hototo secured a first prize of more than £147,000 when winning the DBS Yearling Stakes. Tomorrow, his target is the Weatherbys Insurance £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes, which has attracted a maximum field of 22.

The mount of Paul Mulrennan, Hototo, who won the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, battled home in tremendous style on Knavesmire on his latest outing when beating Well Acquainted and Body And Soul.

That performance proved him to be equally effective at six furlongs as he is over the minimum distance. He faces some tough rivals, including Fahey’s Flyman – unbeaten in two outings after wins at York and Nottingham.

But Hototo brings high-class form into the race and promises to take plenty of beating.

The opening European Breeders’ Fund Carrie Red Fillies’ Nursery looks a wide-open affair and preference is for Jamesbo’s Girl, the mount of Paul Hanagan.

The Fahey-trained juvenile was a winner at Glorious Goodwood and only just failed to follow up at Leicester last week. This six and a half furlongs should be perfect for her.

Hanagan has a ride in the Royal colours aboard Estimate in the DFS Park Hill Stakes, but Sir Michael Stoute’s filly, also bred by Her Majesty the Queen, may have to settle for minor honours behind Wild Coco.

Trained by Sir Henry Cecil, Wild Coco won the Group 3 Lily Langtree Stakes at Goodwood six weeks ago, beating Estimate into third on her first outing of the season. With Tom Queally in the saddle, she may follow up.

The Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes looks a good opportunity for Gamilati to bounce back to winning form.

She enjoyed a tremendous time of it as a a juvenile last year, when wins included the Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket.

During the winter in Dubai, she won the UAE 1,000 Guineas Trial, followed by the real thing. Although disappointing on her comeback to turf racing at Goodwood, this classy filly deserves another chance.

In the DFS Handicap, Trade Storm is napped to follow his recent win at York.

Held in high regard by trainer David Simcock, the four-year-old beat a decent field of handicappers on Knavesmire and left the impression he was still on a progressive curve. He can come out on top again.
