Senior Cricket League: Dutiful Dale brothers help secure Acomb's 13th campaign conquest

CHAMPIONS Acomb underlined their superiority in division one of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League with their 13th win of the campaign.

The Dale brothers provided the bulk of Acomb’s total of 188-8 in a 20-run win against Driffield, with Matt hitting 89 and Joe 35.

In reply, Rich Woodmansey and Andy Chapman both made 45, but James Byford (3-35) and Simon Brown (3-9) kept Acomb in control until Driffield lost their final wicket at 168 off the second ball of James Halstead’s final over.

Pickering moved above Bridlington by beating the East Coast side by 14 runs at Duke’s Park.

The Pikes’ run-scorers were Dave Greenlay (31), Simon King (46) and Tom Sigsworth (34) in a total of 201-8.

Greenlay also took 4-76 as Bridlington were dismissed for 187 in 45.3 overs.

There were runs in abundance at Folkton & Flixton – 572 runs for the loss of 14 wickets.

In a drawn game, the advantage was firmly with Flixton who hit 301-8 against Bolton Percy’s reply of 271-6.

Neil Elvidge made 126 for the hosts and Jake Green 109 for Bolton Percy, which compensated for his unwanted bowling century of 3-117.

Stuart Stocks hit an unbeaten 76 for Flixton, while Tom Atkinson hit 66 for Percy.

Heworth ’s David Simpson hoisted his career run tally in the Senior League above 18,000 when he hit 49 at the top of his side’s innings against visiting Fenner.

Veteran Guy Wilkinson added 46 while Richard Walton cracked six sixes in a rapid 57 as Heworth posted 213.

Fenner were whipped out for only 85 as Dan Walton reached the 50-wicket mark in taking 5-46 and Dan Ellwood took 3-15.

Dringhouses were relegated from division two despite going into the final day in seventh place.

They were left holding on desperately for a losing draw against 11th-placed York III, who took 25 points to lift themselves out of the mire and up to ninth place.

Rich Bowry (56) and Rob Flack (79no) helped York make 174-3.

Dringhouses then struggled against Matt Wright (3-26), Greg How (3-27) and Simon Hall (3-28), but Tom Wilson (22no) saw them to the close at 134-9.

Clifton Alliance brushed away any relegation fears by hitting 266-2 at Hornsea. The innings featured two century stands with John Myers (66) and Simon Corley adding 127 for the first wicket before Corley (112no) was joined by Andy Parkinson (69no) in an unbroken stand of 130 for the third wicket.

Dave Friend then claimed 3-52 but Hornsea were able to claim full batting points in drawing at 208-8.

Tadcaster Magnet bowler Paul Clark took 7-24 to raise his season’s tally to 76 wickets as Osbaldwick were routed for 53 en route to a nine-wicket win.

However, Whitkirk pipped Tadcaster Magnet for the second promotion place when they had an eight-wicket home win after Malton & Old Malton totalled 136-6.

Woodhouse Grange II beat Pocklington by six wickets to win the division six title.

An unbeaten 64 by Andrew Anderson and 37 by Matt Hattee saw Grange past Pock’s 163 all out.

Malton & Old Malton went agonisingly close to escaping relegation.

Opponents Sheriff Hutton posted a total of 213-8, with Joel Wilford making 68 and Nick Schofield 45.

Stuart Whatmore had 3-34 for Malton, whose reply of 203-8 left them 11 runs away from survival.

Martin Woodliffe hit 67 for Malt and Tom Audsley made 52 but Eddie Hull’s 4-36 was enough to save Sheriff.
