Pickering Town eye home comforts but without complacency

HOME was not where the ideal start was for Pickering Town who crashed 4-0 to Parkgate in the Northern Counties East League premier division.
It’s the Recreation Ground again tomorrow for the Pikes when they entertain top-flight anchor outfit Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
But manager jimmy Reid has discarded all counts of complacency being allowed to creep in.
“At this stage last year we were at the bottom of the league, so we’ll not be taking anything for granted,” said Reid.
“We’ve not been as bad as the results have showed especially against Parkgate where we had our centre-half Dean Readman sent off for a penalty that wasn’t really a foul. That made it 1-0 and Parkgate took control.
“We just need to get three points in the bag quickly ahead of an attractive run of fixtures.”
There’s a tip-top tussle for Scarborough Athletic, who, lying in third place, head to Worksop Parramore, who are one spot above them in the premier division.
Athletic almost suffered a rare home defeat in midweek when, after taking the lead with a James Bennett strike against Armthorpe Welfare, they then had to rely on Ryan Blott, their eight-goal leading marksman, to rescue a point in a 2-2 share-all.
An even more daunting task faces Selby Town in the NCEL first division.
The Robins, who have dipped to 20th place in the table, travel to fifth-placed Yorkshire Amateur.
Harrogate Town’s fortunes improved when they notched only their second Blue Square Bet North win of the campaign by downing hosts Droylsden in midweek.
An own goal put them in front at half-time before they doubled their advantage on the hour through Chib Chilaka. But there was a nervy finale after former York City front-man Joe O’Neill replied for Droylsden until Luke Dean sealed the win six minutes from time.
Next up for Harrogate is a trip to ninth-placed Histon, two slots above the Wetherby Roaders.
Travels too for Harrogate Railway, whose chances of improving a meagre tally of one point from four games in the Evo-Stik League first division north will be sternly tested at mid-table Radcliffe Borough.
