Cricket: Eddie Cass stars as Pickering take title

Pickering defended their York & District Senior League Intermediate League title with a 22-run win over Fenner in the final on Sunday at Sessay Cricket Club.

Pickering had an opening stand of 34 before Mathew Allison (23) fell to change bowler Liam Hutchinson (4-25), who also took the prize wicket of Ben Lealman (2) and Tim Whincup (9).

Pikes captain Eddie Cass (51no) carried his bat (he retired on 50 but returned after the ninth wicket) and shared a fourth-wicket stand of 57 with Ryan Boyes (18), before the latter became the first victim of off-spinner Dylan Barkworth’s 5-28, which included a hat-trick and brought the innings to an abrupt end at 141 in the 37th over.

Fenner openers Barkworth (23) and Ben Hatfield (41) did well but, after man-of-the-match Cass (1-35) trapped his opposite skipper lbw in the 14th over, Pickering never looked back, with the Marfleet side all out for 119.

Spinner Ryan Boyes took 2-20, Whincup 4-26 and Alex Ibbotson 3-7.
