Cricket: Last-over loss for Sherburn 2nds

Sherburn 2nds endured last-over agony in the final of the Derwent Valley League’s Atlas Ward Trophy.

Forge Valley 2nds needed 16 runs to win off the last two overs and young David Leddon hit a four, a six and a four as Valley won with two balls to spare.

Sherburn had enjoyed a good start to their innings through Jack Pickard (45) and Rob Worthy (29) and a late flurry from Martin Marfitt (34 not out) took them to a good 133-4 off their 18 overs.

Ian Laing (32) and Eric Hall (25) gave Valley a good start to their reply and Sean Pinder hit a fine 38 to set up the grand finale. Veteran Nick Dobson (3-24) and Worthy (2-12) bowled well for Sherburn.
