Cricket: No final glee for beaten Nawton Grange

NAWTON Grange 2nds lost the final of the Derwent Valley League’s Murray Brown & Son Cup by 38 runs against Filey 2nds at Flixton.
Filey amassed a huge 183-2 off 20 overs with Aaron Howard hitting five huge sixes in his 74 not out while Matty Dicken made 56 and Ben Brigg 42.
In reply, Grange lost two early wickets before Ian Ward (56) and Neil Ward (36) turned the game around. Once they were out, Grange fell short by 38 runs. Kevin Chapman (2-22 from five overs) was the best bowler.
The league’s Atlas Ward Cup final between Sherburn 2nds and Forge Valley 3rds, which was postponed due to rain on July 11, is to be played tomorrow (Thursday, 6pm) at Staxton.
It is 20 overs per side and the umpires are Les Johnson and Robin Boddy.
