Heworth were five-wicket winners over Pickering in division one of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League.

Mark Shepherd made 60 and Craig Aconley hit 32 in the Pikes’ total of 185-9, while Yorkshire Academy ace Jack Leaning took 4-22 for Heworth in eight overs.

When Heworth responded, ex-Copmanthorpe player Salman Syed made an unbeaten 46, Waseem Akram struck 43 and Dave Simpson made 38 as the visitors reached their target in 41 overs for the loss of five wickets.

Sewerby boosted their hopes of gaining promotion to the premier division by gaining a seven-wicket home win over Folkton & Flixton.

Russ Robinson played a crucial role for the cliff-toppers with a decisive spell of bowling that earned him 5-48, plus a handy 30 runs.

Teenager Lewis Beasley supported well with the ball in taking 3-37, while early batting support came from Luke Jennison, with 44, before Chris Chapman drove his side home with an unbeaten 58.

Flixton’s Stuart Stocks made 36 and Harry Walmsley 26 in their total of 150 all out.

Barry Petty returned to Thirsk’s ranks and helped his side gain their first win as they surprised third-placed Hull Zingari with a 62-run victory.

Former Northallerton player Richard Kirby top-scored with 31 for the Racers with John Cook’s unbeaten 29 helping post a home total of 143 all out. Guy Martinson claimed 4-60.

The Zingari batsmen then failed badly as they were zipped out for only 81, with Stuart Christon claiming 6-42 and Petty 4-36.

Fenner beavered away all morning to get their ground into a playable condition and they reaped the reward with a one-run victory in a thriller against Harrogate.

In a game of 45 overs that started at 1.20pm, Fenner were indebted to opener Paul Scrowston who carried his bat to make 63 not out.

He was joined in a 55-run stand for the second wicket dominated by Ross Davy with 43.

Rob Kay captured 5-45 for the visitors as Fenner moved to 147-9.

Harrogate made a solid start in reaching 46-1 but then collapsed to 86-7.

Then opener Simon Cleverson (73) was joined by George Ellerby (24) in an eighth-wicket stand of 57 which tipped the scales back in favour of the visitors.

However, Ellerby was caught and bowled by Luke Laybourne in the penultimate over and Harrogate’s number ten was run out off the final ball of the over as Cleverson kept the strike.

With two needed for victory, he was then lbw off the first delivery of the final over as he attempted a reverse sweep off Ryan Kirk (3-43) to leave Fenner winners by one run.

Mike Arundell’s 3-32 were the best figures for the victors.
