10:11am Monday 9th July 2012 in Sport
THE mopping up work by ground staff and players paid off at Sheriff Hutton Bridge as the hosts beat Thirsk by 104 runs in Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League division five.
Bridge’s Steve Crowder hit 59 before being trapped leg before, then Murray Coyle made a useful 30 before the Bridge’s tail flopped as the side were all out for 179 with more than four overs unused.
Ross McAndrew was the architect of the collapse with 5-22, while Ryan Spence took 3-29.
The Bridge bowling attack then proved to be too effective for a Thirsk side who were dismissed for only 75 with Tom Magee (3-8) and Dan Clipston (3-11) the pick.
Promotion-chasing rivals Heworth and Civil Service played out a draw in a game reduced to 25 overs, enabling Heworth to close the gap on Patrington by 14 points.
Heworth’s batsmen fared well and scored at more than six runs per over in totalling 161-3.
There were runs from Nadeem Sadiq (38), Hall (47) and Paul Neal (53no).
In reply, Graham Purdy made 43 and John Chisholm 32, but Tom Peat, with 3-27, was able to peg Civil Service to 124-5.
