Angling: Lightfoot family affair
8:50am Wednesday 13th June 2012 in Sport
FATHER and son Paul and Nathan Lightfoot cleaned up in Huttons Ambo AC’s Wednesday evening match at Birkdale Lakes at Terrington, writes Paul Thompson.
Father Paul top-scored in the seniors and his son, Nathan, won the junior section and finished third overall.
Paul fished on the left bank of the main lake and took lots of small roach plus a bonus threeand- a-half pound bream on the three-metre pole and maggot to boost his final tally to 7lb 2oz.
Nathan sat on the opposite bank and rattled out 110 roach for 3lb 6oz.
He now heads the league table on 11 points, one point clear of travelling companion Brian Scott.
Sitting it out on the pole and paste for bigger fish, he was rewarded with several carp for a total weight of 13lb 14oz.
Mark Sellers was best of the rest with 4lb 9oz.
Westland’s AC’s match was fished in atrocious wet and windy conditions on the Folly Lake at Risby Park last Friday, but there were still plenty of fish to be had.
Colin McNeil got among the recently-introduced stock carp in the 1lb bracket with pole and paste tactics at peg 30. He also attracted three ghost carp in the region of 3lb to end the day with a level 57lb.
Alan Taylor sat next to the winner at peg 29 and included a fantastic specimen carp of 15lb in his runners-up net of 34lb.
McNeil also shone on Sunday, winning Malton & Norton AC’s match on the main lake at Redwood Park with 25lb 9oz. Paste on the nine-metre pole accounted for F1s to 1lb, plus a bonus 6lb carp.
Paul Jessop also used the paste on the margin pole to secure second place with 19lb 12oz.
