Angling: Jimmy Dodds tops an action-packed event
3:19pm Wednesday 6th June 2012 in Sport
Plaxtons enjoyed an action-packed six hours of competition fishing at Whole Sea Grange on Friday, with the top five anglers catching an aggregate 430lb of fish and two lucky ones smashing through the ton barrier.
Jimmy Dodds led the way with a whopping 112lb 6oz from peg 26 on the number one pond, taking carp to the 5lb mark with margin pole and paste.
Barry Richardson also opted for a margin approach with paste at peg 22 and was richly rewarded with 107lb of carp.
Skimmers were the name of the game in G B Angling Club’s Tuesday bash on the 3B lake at Foss Hill Fishery, and nobody does that better than Phil Roberts, as proved again with a winning catch of 46lb 8oz.
Utilising the pole at 11 metres with pellet for bait, he attracted specimens to 2lb 8oz. John Creaser pushed the winner all the way, taking 45lb 12oz from peg 8.
The top four rods all took in excess of a 100 fish apiece in round two of Huttons Ambo AC’s evening match at Birkdale Lakes, Terrington, last Wednesday.
Paul Thompson located a slightly better stamp of roach, netting 106 with the three-metre pole and maggot to record 6lb 14oz at the weigh-in. Geoff Selby fished the identical method and secured second place with 3lb of roach.
The top three anglers sat in a line in Sunday’s Black Horse AC match on the House Lake at the Willows Fishery.
Cliff Dawson drew peg 52 and fished luncheon meat on the pole to attract the attention of carp up to the 7lb pound mark to end the day with 52lb 14oz.
Norton’s Doug Featherstone was the next in the line, taking 45lb 10oz of carp on pole and cat food tactics, leaving Gordon Fennell in third with 42lb 12oz.
Malton & Norton AC entertain Scarborough Mere AC in the deciding leg of the inter-club at Red Wood Park this Sunday.
The match is to be fished on the main lake with the draw taking place at 9am in the fishery car park. For more information or to book a place, phone Paul Thompson on 01653 618602.
