Pickering shock runaway leaders Acomb in York & District Senior League
2:55pm Wednesday 6th June 2012 in Sport
Pickering, previously in mid-table obscurity in Hunters York & District Senior League division one, inflicted a first defeat of the campaign on runaway first division leaders Acomb.
Indeed, they brought the York side down to earth with a bang with a nine-wicket home defeat.
In a modest Acomb total of 114, Scott Nicholls made 30 and Neil Grant 36, but the first-half plaudits rested firmly with Dave Greenlay (4-44) and Lorcan Barker (3-29).
Mark Shepherd then made 41 before becoming the only Pickering casualty with Simon King being unbeaten with 38 when victory was clinched.
Folkton & Flixton made sure Thirsk remained the only side in the division still to gain a win after taking the better of a draw.
Scott Cooper (54) and Richard Malthouse (53), supplemented by an unbeaten 30 from Rob Lacey, saw Flixton to 243-8 despite 4-83 by Stuart Christon. Thirsk then collapsed to 56-6 as Mike Hunter (6-33) made major inroads.
Des Wyrill (26) and Tom Stead (25) offered token resistance but it was skipper Ben England who saved the day with an unbeaten 57 to help his side avoid defeat at 171-8.
