Red is the colour in the Yorkshire Cup at York Racecourse

RED CADEAUX stormed to victory in the Group 2 Sportingbet Yorkshire Cup at York Racecourse's Dante Festival.

Harris Tweed initially led a tight group in the first major stayers’ contest of the season, with Electrolyser and Artic Cosmos in second and third.

Just beyond the half-way mark of the one-mile-six-furlong race, Electrolyser moved up on the inside to challenge the leader and the rest of the group also picked up the pace in the final three furlongs.

But Red Cadeaux (4-1), trained at Newmarket by Ed Dunlop, proved too strong for the rest of the field, pulling away to a length-and-three-quarter victory.

Glen’s Diamond was second after a late dash while Harris Tweed finished third.

Dunlop said: “I’m proud of the horse and the team. We love him to death.”
