Leg injury forces Simon Dyson's departure from championship

A MYSTERY leg injury forced York’s world-rated golfer Simon Dyson out of the Players’ Championship at the Sawgrass course in Florida, writes Tony Kelly.

The 34-year-old Dyson posted a four-over-par 76 in the first round, but for the last few holes was barely able to walk after suffering as yet undiagnosed shooting pains all down his right leg.

The world number 38 opted to withdraw from the star-studded event – dubbed by the players as the “fifth major” – and jet home to seek urgent medical treatment to discover what is causing him so much discomfort.
