Cycling: Steve Kneeshaw effort pays off

HARD winter training on a static bike paid off for Steve Kneeshaw in Malton Wheelers’ first time trial of the season.

The club’s previous five-miler was cancelled due to bad weather, and this 10-mile TT, which saw new and familiar faces involved, was also wind-affected – the southerly wind aiding riders to the turn on the Malton/Pickering road but making the return a nightmare.

Kneeshaw, pictured above, blew the field apart, though, with a time of 23 minutes 05 seconds – a personal best.

Hot on his wheels were Paul Hickman and Ralph Lilley, tying with 23-35, while Matthew Enticknap was the last rider to finish under 24 minutes with 23-43.

Newcomer Ewan Brown, a student from Wales who has recently moved to Malton, put in a cracking time of 25-30, with Patrick Mudd, from Pickering, crossing the line in 25-34 as the first non-aero rider.

Barrie Cappleman and Colin Baldwin continued their tussles from last year with times of 25-58 and 25-59 respectively.

Mark Hitchcock, who has had quite some time away from racing but returns new with renewed vigour, clocked 26-22.

Adrian Taylor clocked 27-00, Tim Davies 28-02 and Sean McDermot 28-03.
