Pearl Secret tipped for success at Doncaster Racecourse

REGULAR York racegoers are advised to cast their minds back to last October and recall the successful debut made by Pearl Secret, who looked a class act in the making for North Yorkshire trainer David Barron.

Tomorrow at Doncaster, Pearl Secret makes his eagerly awaited reappearance with Jamie Spencer again taking the mount.

A fine-looking specimen, Pearl Secret was spoken of in glowing terms by Barron after his York success, and anyone who heard the trainer’s words could hardly have failed to realise the high regard Barron has for this son of Compton Place.

Pearl Secret is certainly an exciting prospect. He is napped to return in a blaze of glory in the Kat Communications Knowledge About Telecoms Handicap over five furlongs.

Alan Berry can open his account for the turf season with Red Roar in the Atteys Solicitors Fillies’ Handicap.

Closely related to former stable-mate, the high-class Look Busy, Red Roar finished a good third on her reappearance earlier this month at Redcar. The rain-softened ground will aid her cause.

Paul Midgley can also get his name on the Town Moor scoresheet, courtesy of Haajes in the freebets.co.uk Handicap.

Five furlongs and soft ground are perfect conditions for Haajes, a winner on this course last September. He finished a creditable third at Musselburgh on his latest start.

Frankie Dettori can reward his followers by winning the opening zestbarandgrill.com Maiden Fillies’ Stakes on Shaleek.

Trained by Roger Varian, Shaleek finished second on both her juvenile outings. She looks the type to come into her own this term.

Boss’s Destination, who has been in good shape on all-weather tracks, can transfer that form to turf in the Free Bets With freebets.co.uk Handicap, while Scrupul, who showed ability in all of his three starts as a juvenile for Luca Cumani, looks interesting under Kieren Fallon, in the same sponsors’ three-year-old handicap.

At Sandown, the bet365 Mile, a Group 2 event, takes pride of place and, unsurprisingly, has attracted a quality field.

David O’Meara’s Doncaster winner Penitent carries the North Yorkshire flag, while last week’s Newmarket scorer Questioning turns out again for John Gosden and William Buick.

Preference, however, is for Famous Name, a winner on his reappearance and trained by Dermot Weld, who does not send horses to England just for the good of their health.

Paul Hanagan can get his Sandown exertions off to a good start. He teams up with Rafeej in the bet365 Handicap.

Trained by Mark Johnston, the speedy three-year-old was unbeaten in two starts last season. Further success looks likely.

Roger Charlton has a high opinion of Trader Jack, who merits consideration in the bet365.com Esher Cup.

A promising third on his reappearance at Newbury last October, Trader Jack made no mistake at Ffos Las next time. Proven in the mud, he should find conditions ideal on his reappearance and is expected to run a big race.
