China cheer for Simon Dyson in a promising weekend

SIMON DYSON showed glimpses of his best form as he closed out the Volvo China Open with rounds of 68 and 70.

The 34-year-old York golfer carded only two bogeys over the course of the weekend at the Binhai Lake Golf Club to finish in a tie for 36th place.

Dyson’s nine-under-par total was 12 shy of winner Branden Grace, of South Africa, but there were signs of the Malton & Norton Golf Club star’s consistency returning.

Yesterday’s two-under-par round of 70 included birdies on the first, fourth and 15th, with his only blemish a dropped shot at the last hole.

Dyson had moved ten places up the leaderboard on Saturday after a four-under-par third round of 68.

After rounds of 71 and 70 on the opening two days to be three-under at the midway stage, Dyson hit form on the front nine.

Birdies at the fifth, sixth and eighth saw him reach the turn in 33. He picked up another shot at the par-five 12th and although he dropped a shot at the 17th, he immediately got it back at the last.
