Simon Dyson drops out of title reckoning in Malaysian Open finale

A FINAL round of 74 cost York golfer Simon Dyson the chance of a top-ten finish in the Maybank Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.

The 34-year-old was in contention after completing his opening three rounds of a weather-hit tournament in seven-under-par.

However, a two-over closing round saw him drop to a share of 24th place on five-under, netting him 19,071 euros.

On a storm-hit third day, Dyson completed 13 holes of his third round in three under par to be in joint-ninth place.

When play resumed on the final day, he dropped a shot at the 17th for a round of 70.

The Malton & Norton Golf Club star struggled to get his fourth round firing, dropping shots at the second, 16th and 17th, with a lone birdie on the sixth hole at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen produced the perfect response to his play-off defeat at the Masters by claiming the title.

The 29-year-old former Open champion, who missed out on a second major at Augusta when he lost a play-off to American Bubba Watson, finished at 17-under-par.
