JIMMY REID has expressed his delight after agreeing to stay on as Pickering Town manager.
The Scotsman, who has led the Pikes to 10 wins in 15 matches since returning to the Recreation Ground for a second spell just before Christmas, has committed to the club for another season – joined by his management team of Steve Brown, Dean MacAuley and Simon Sturdy.
An official Pickering statement announcing terms had been agreed said: “Since his return to the club prior to Christmas 2011, the results have been excellent, and team spirit first class. It is hoped that the club will move further forward next season.”
Reid took over with the club second bottom in the Northern Counties East League premier division but has orchestrated a revival which continued over the Easter period with a 1-0 win at Staveley Miners Welfare and a 2-0 victory over Long Eaton United.
The Pikes boss said he was excited at the possibilities that lay ahead for Pickering and said that everyone at the club, from coaches and players to supporters, had played a part in the team’s recent revival.
Reid said: “We are going to give it another year. The boys that were there, and those we have brought in, have been absolutely brilliant. There have been a couple of little hitches along the way but the total points we have gained have been fantastic.
“When we got there, we needed three snookers. We’ve picked up a lot of points but we are still seventh bottom.
“But it is exciting and we are looking forward to a clean slate next season. We need some players in – not an enormous amount – to try to get some more quality as well as bringing some of the under-19s through.
“We are delighted (to have signed). For us to go there in the situation we did – we are now seeing a lot of people at Pickering smiling.
“The supporters have been fantastic. There is a spring in the step of the club and everyone has played a part in it.”
