RYEDALE runner Richard Buck launches his bid for a fifth major indoor championship medal in Turkey on Friday.

The 25-year-old City of York Athletics Club star runs in the 400 metres heats at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul at about 10am on Friday.

The semi-finals will be held at about 6pm that day, with the final scheduled for 5.30pm on Saturday.

The 4x400m relay heats take place on Saturday at 11.20am, with the final at 3.40pm on Sunday.

Buck, a former pupil at Lady Lumley’s School in Pickering, is aiming to add to a medal haul that includes a relay bronze from the World Indoors in Doha in 2010, relay silvers from the European Indoors in Torino in 2009 and Paris in 2011, plus an individual bronze last year.

Following his stunning indoor personal best of 45.88 seconds last month, Buck heads into the event full of confidence. “I am thrilled to be going there in good shape and I will give it a proper go,” he said.
