SULTAN of swing Simon Dyson was in top title-amassing company in today’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
The York-born ace was scheduled to start the first round alongside Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts and new wonder-chip off the South African block, Branden Grace.
Out of the five European Tour events held this year, Grace has won two of them. He posted successive triumphs in the Joburg Open in his homeland and in the Volvo Golf Champions tournament just a week later, the latter success in a three-way play-off against compatriots Ernie Els and Retief Goosen.
The amazing Grace double amassed almost 3,300,000 euros, hoisted him into the world’s top 100 and earned him the European Tour golfer of the month award for January.
Dyson, though, is in fine fettle. In spite of sitting out last week’s Qatar Masters, the 34-year-old Dyson is still lodged at number 26 – his highest ever placing in the game’s global standings.
