Awards time for young cricket aces

MERIT award winners are to be presented at Derwent Valley Junior League’s annual general meeting tonight (Wednesday).

The awards follow superb displays last season. The winners are listed.

Under-15s division ‘A’: batting – Tim Whincup (Pickering ‘A’) 258 runs; bowling – Fergus Ward (Duncombe Park) 20 wickets, fFielding – Harry Gunning (Wykeham ‘A’) 8 catches; wicketkeeping – Joe Hills (Scarborough ‘A’) 18 victims.

U15s division ‘B’: batting – Rory Stead (Ebberston) 168 runs; bowling – Sam Hardie (Ebberston) 13 wickets; fielding – Sam Megginson (Ebberston) 7 catches; wicketkeeping – Kyle Scaife (Flixton) and Matty Keyworth (Sewerby ‘A’) 4 victims.

U15s division ‘C’: batting – Stephen Hill (Hunmanby) 234 runs; bowling – Stephen Croft (Beeford) 20 wickets; fielding – Zach Briggs (Hunmanby) 9 catches; wicketkeeping – Kieran Gould (Hunmanby) 9 victims.

U11s: batting – Conner Robb (Driffield) 234 runs; bowling – Kevin Kebain (Scarborough) 15 wickets; fielding – Conner Robb (Driffield) and David Snowball (Scarborough) 5 catches; wicketkeeping – Harrison Male (Bridlington) 11 victims.

Meanwhile, the make-up of the DVJL has been confirmed for the forthcoming season.

Cloughton ‘B’, Duncombe Park, Filey, Pickering ‘B’, Pickering ‘C’, Thornton-le-Dale, Seamer and Wykeham ‘B’ all resigned from under-15s league.

New applications came from Forge Valley and Pickering U13s ‘A’.

Teams in divisions ‘A’ and ‘B’ will play each other home and away making 14 league fixtures. Teams in division ‘C’ will play each other home and away and once again, making 15 fixtures.

In division ‘A’ are: champions Scarborough ‘A’, Pickering, Cayton, Driffield, Wykeham, Bridlington ‘A’, and promoted pair Ebberston and Sewerby ‘A’.

In Division B are: relegated Nawton Grange, Scalby ‘A’, Scarborough ‘B’, Flixton, and promoted teams Beeford, Cloughton, Hunmanby and Staxton.

In division ‘C’ are: Sewerby ‘B’, Bridlington ‘B’, Scalby ‘B’, Sherburn, Forge Valley and Pickering U13s ‘A’.

In the U13s league, there were applications from Bridlington, Cayton, Cloughton, Duncombe Park, Pickering ‘B’, Scarborough, Seamer and Wykeham. In the U11s league, Sewerby and Snainton ‘B’ resigned and there were new applications from Duncombe Park and Pickering ‘C’.

Sherburn are looking for friendly matches during 2012, while at U9s level Bridlington, Cayton, Ebberston, Scarborough, Snainton and Wykeham have expressed an interest in playing friendlies.
