A team-mate starts to celebrate as striker John Newton, partially hidden, fires the first goal of his hat-trick for Old Malton St Mary’s against Huntington
IT was all change at the top of the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division.
Third-placed Old Malton St Mary’s beat leaders Huntington Rovers 5-2 and Dunnington reclaimed pole position for the first time since September with an 8-1 win over basement dwellers Keystones.
Huntington had the perfect start at Malton, taking the lead after five minutes through Gary Newton.
However, home striker John Newton then hit a purple patch, notching a hat-trick inside 15 minutes and Neil Wilford made it 4-1 before the break.
After half-time, Dean Nuttall extended Old Malton’s lead and James Edmund’s last-minute goal was nothing more than a consolation for Huntington.
Jimmy Wilmoth scored half of the Dunnington tally against Keystones, while the division’s top goalscorer, Scott Sullivan, chipped in with a brace to add to strikes from Tom Richards and Chris Burgess. A second successive defeat leaves fourth-placed Copmanthorpe struggling to keep pace with the leaders.
They went down 3-2 at home to Dringhouses despite taking an early lead through Mike Creswick.
George Bissett levelled before a Danny Snaith penalty saw Dringhouses lead 2-1 at the break.
Copmanthorpe pushed hard for an equaliser but fell further behind as Dan Owers took his personal tally for the season into double figures.
Cop’s only reward in the second half was a late Danny Leach goal.
York RI recorded their first home win since September as they beat Hamilton Panthers 5-1.
They were gifted an own goal to open their account before Lee Powell (2), Mark Woodward and Nick Hutchinson found the net. Two late goals from substitute Gary Raper helped Easingwold ease their relegation worries with a first win in seven games, beating fellow strugglers Haxby United 5-2.
Twice Mike O’Connor pegged back the Easingwold lead given to them through Adam Paterson, George Kirk and Andrew Sugden before Raper sealed the win. Terrington Glory extended their lead at the top of division one to ten points with a 2-1 home win over Tockwith.
Dave Bradshaw and Danny Bulmer were on target for Glory, with Rob Wilson netting a penalty late in the game for Tockwith.
Lee Bunce hit all Heworth’s goals as the basement side pushed their unbeaten run to five games with a 4-1 home win over Hemingbrough.
Tom Collins scored for ’Brough.
Malton & Norton trailed to goals from Selby RSSC’s Chris Coxen and Rob Friar at the break but eventually won 3-2 to move out of the relegation zone into the top six.
Kev Oxendale, Marcus Godsell and Darrel Craggs were on target.
Pocklington came from a goal down to beat Amotherby 2-1.
Andy Anderson and Dan Croft hit the Pock goals, with Rob Pinder replying. Post Office drew 2-2 with Bishopthorpe. Will Wood and Ben Brannigan netted for Post Office against goals from Joe Beecher and Darren Miles.
