DIVISION one leaders Acomb were denied by the weather in their Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League clash with Pickering.

Acomb had moved into a strong position batting first at home to the Ryedale side, reaching 83-1 in 29.3 overs before the rain prevailed.

The York side lost opener Matt Dickinson for a first-over duck to Dave Greenlay, but Matt Dale moved to 42 not out and Scott Nicholls to 34 not out.

There was a similar situation at Sheriff Hutton Bridge, where visiting Hull Zingari had reached 82 without loss when the ground was swept by torrential rain.

The chief architect was Jack Storey with an unbeaten 49.

For the visitors, who also pocketed ten points, Mike Hunter took 3-40 and Chris Mann 3-26.

Bridlington’s game against Thirsk was reduced to a 25-over affair, leaving them with the impossible task of defending a score of 72-4.

Run-makers for the victors were Mark Cook (34no) and Ben England (31no).

The game between Clifton Alliance and Harrogate was another match to fall foul of the weather.

Relegation-threatened Hornsea were within a whisker of gaining an advantage draw before going down to Driffield by three wickets with one delivery to spare.

Hornsea made 164-7 with Nick Johnson claiming 3-57 and Rob Woodcock 4-48.

Mick Drury led the reply with 41, and Rich Woodmansey made 32 before Jamie Nessfield propelled them to victory with an undefeated 26.

Sewerby beat Whitkirk by seven wickets and the division two leaders need a mere 12 points from their final three games to be certain of the championship.

There was a century for skipper Matt Westwood (106) and other good input from Jacob Green (30) and Tom Malloch (44).

The innings was then rounded off by Joe White (27no) and Peter Houseman (24no) as Bolton logged the day’s highest total of 248-4.

In reply, Richie Carew hit 53 and Andy Hall 31, but Ali Rigby (4-36) and Houseman (4-25) joined forces to bowl Osbaldwick out for 147 and leave them languishing at the foot of the division.

Ian Wilson was sailing along against Londesborough Park and had reached 68 not out when the rain halted Dringhouses’ innings after 26 overs.

With Chris Storey making 36, Dringy were well poised on 136-3 in their bid to escape relegation.

The nine points awarded for the cancellation kept their hopes of survival alive.

Pocklington pulled off a surprise when their 54-run home win over third-placed Malton belied their form and lifted them from the foot of the division up to tenth place.

The game included the quickest century of the day and two six-wicket hauls.

Joss Room took a match-winning 6-31 as Malton’s Mike Linsley hit 33 and Tom Hoggard made 40 as their side fell away to 140 all out.
