Duncombe Park were knocked off top spot in division three of the Hunters York & District Senior League after they had the worst of a draw at Malton & Old Malton II.

Shane Bonsor (73no) starred in Malton’s 204-7. Steve Baxter weighed in with 37 as J Crannange captured 3-54.

Crannage then made 39 as he and Pete Kent (26) gave handy support to Brian Leckenby, whose 83 took Park close at 187-8. Good bowling figures by Brett Crowe (4-43) and Tony Linsley (3-20) enabled Malton to keep their nose in front.

Hull II went top after Dave Wilson (92) and Matt Watkin (62) took them to 277-4 against Hovingham to earn the better of a draw.

Hovingham never looked likely to reach their target but still gleaned maximum batting points in a high-scoring contest.

An unbeaten 97 by Stuart Prest, abetted by 31 from James Shelton, saw them to 200-7.

Three Sheriff Hutton bowlers each took three wickets at Carlton Towers where the hosts were rolled over for 135. Ben Harrison’s 3-18 was the most economic, just ahead of Andy Kenny’s 3-26 and Buddhi Mirando’s 3-25.

Sheriff’s reply started with a 72-run opening stand between Ed Taylor (41) and Rich Ainley (38) before Joel Welford’s unbeaten 43 rounded off a seven-wicket win.

Woodhouse Grange made light of chasing down Stillington’s 225-7 as they went top of division four.

Stillington’s Karl Simpson hit 87, Oliver Everard 34 and Tim Wells 42 not out as Paul Grewer took 3-33.

Any home jubilation at the the break quickly evaporated as Jon Bean (93) and Mike Hattee (103no) put on 172 in a first-wicket stand which paved the way for Grange’s eight-wicket victory.

Pickering II lost by seven wickets Driffield. Tom Sigsworth made 56 and Jack Thackray 34 as Pikes made 181-8.

But the first-half plaudits were gleaned by Grant Holder (6-25). The second half belonged to Neil Woodcock, who struck 109 as Driffield ran out convincing winners.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge are still seeking a first win of the season in division five after 101-run thrashing at Selby.

Neil Wilson (46) was the main run-maker in Selby’s 181-7, young Oliver Leedham claiming 4-33. The Bridge’s youthful line-up then fell for 80 all out as Joe Romaniwz captured 6-27.

Stillington II’s Adrian Leckonby made 116 but was on the losing side at division seven leaders Sheriff Hutton.

Stillington made 197-6, Jason Dale supporting Leckonby with 38. But their efforts were negated by Vijay Jayagopal (33), Wayne Fawcett (54) and Chris Megone (52no) as Sheriff won by four wickets in the 43rd over.

Eight-man Rowntrees II almost pulled off an unlikely win over 10-man Hovingham II but eventually lost by a nominal three wickets.

Rowntrees reached 106 as Paul Higginbottom took 4-17. Pete Edmondson then sent tremors through Hovingham’s reply with 4-20 but Peter Banks (54no) was the match-winner as they reached 107-7.
