JAMES Dakin, making a rare appearance for Thixendale, added another record to his HPH York Vale Cricket League portfolio.

His 192 not out at Malton & Old Malton in 2008 is the league’s highest individual innings and on Saturday his 173 at home against relegated Bishopthorpe II was a ground record.

Mike England produced a season’s best 6-33 to end a one-sided game to close out the season. With Dale already safe and the Bishops’ second string down there was nothing riding on the game but Bishopthorpe made a decent fist of things with 158, Charlie Featherstone taking 4-78.

Malton & Old Malton ended an excellent season with a flourish as the division four champions thrashed Askham Bryan II by eight wickets.

Andy Selby was the hero with 6-25 as no Askham batsman reached double figures in a miserable total of 55. Tom Fussell also chipped in with 2-8 off seven overs.

Andy Thompson (26no) sped Malt to victory in only 7.3 overs.

Malton’s second string also bowled out their opposition cheaply as Selby II were rolled over for 87 in division five. Mick Liversidge was the star of the show with 5-25, supported by Rob Moore’s 2-20.

However, Malt’s batting spluttered at the start as they stumbled to 14-4 but Adam Hill (45no) took control to give the men from the Gannock a five-wicket win.

Westow ended their division two campaign with a 69-run defeat to Stockton & Hopgrove, who set an imposing 194-8 from their 40 overs, Mark Earle taking 3-36 while Ben Holtby and Andy Welford took two wickets apiece.

Welford made 36 when Westow batted, but Rich Grimes grabbed 5-56 as Westow were bowled out for 125.
