PICKERING and Harome are locked together at the top of division one in the Ryedale Beckett League.
The Pikes grabbed back-to-back wins over Duncombe Park and Malton & Old Malton, taking full advantage of Harome’s slip-up against Heslerton.
Pickering’s bowlers were in top form during the double-header, dismissing Duncombe Park for 69 to seal a 48-run win and routing Malton for only 56 in a seven-wicket success.
The Pikes made 117-4 against Park, with Mark Aconley top-scoring on 40 not out and Shaun Smith supporting with 35.
The run-a-ball target proved too much for Park and only Peter Humpleby (40) could cope with the guile of off-spinner Mark Shepherd, who took 4-34, and Johnny Ibbotson, who polished off the tail with 3-7.
Rob Aconley returned eye-catching figures of 6-9 in his four overs against Malton, with only Ben Gill (17) showing any resistance.
After losing Ian Turnbull in the first over, Craig Aconley (34no) saw Pickering home.
Harome suffered their second defeat of the season against Heslerton, as their 125-4 was overhauled for the loss of only three wickets.
Harome’s innings was centred around in-form Josh Greenlay, who ended undefeated on 49, while Steve Dodsworth made 26.
Adam Spaven’s 2-29 was the pick of the home side’s bowling.
Heslerton knocked off the runs thanks to W Tindall’s 42 and S Oxendale’s 27. Dave Greenlay picked up 2-42.
Harome got back on track with a four-wicket win over Kirkbymoorside, smashing 20 off the last over to take the points.
Kirkbymoorside reached 147-8 despite being reduced to 38-6 after eight overs. Mark Haines ripped through the top order, taking 4-12, but Alex Strickland led the fight back with 36.
Harome had to work hard to keep up with the run rate due to tight bowling from Daniel Jeminson (3-25) and they lost wickets at vital times.
Phil Marwood made 26, Rob Harding hit 17 and James Greenlay struck 22, but the hero was Josh Greenlay, who was 62 not out.
The first two balls of the final over produced a wicket and a single before Greenlay hit three sixes in four balls to win the match.
There was consolation for Kirkbymoorside as they racked up 193-3 to set up a 77-run victory over Malton & Old Malton.
Jodie Robson got Kirby off to a flying start with 68, before Andrew Marley (51) and Martin Charlton (51) progressed the visitors’ score.
Danny Foxton top-scored for Malton with 53 and Gary Hall made 24, but Howard Mudd (3-15) and Mark Fairweather (2-23) blew away Malton’s middle order. Ryan Boyd ended on 13 not out.
Sam Thackray (66no) and Andy Slaughter (47) shone for Great Habton in their 18-run victory over Westow. They helped their side reach 158-4, despite Dave Coverdale and Andy Welford picking up a couple of wickets each.
Westow fell short at 140-3, with R Kellock marooned on 64 not out, while R Hudson made 43.
Westow then beat Duncombe Park by 11 runs, totalling 146-3 and then restricting their opponents to 135-3.

Hovingham needed 24 from the last four overs and nine from the last over, but only managed seven.
Kristian Wilkinson starred with the bat, making 36 as Heslerton posted a useful total of 122-9.
Tony Watson (2-13) bowled well at the death for Heslerton and Wilkinson recorded 1-14 as Hovingham fell agonisingly short.
Stuart Prest led the visitors’ effort, which closed on 121-6.
Malton & Old Malton overhauled Heslerton’s total of 89-4 for the loss of only four wickets to maintain their position in the top half of the table.
Mike Linsley conceded only 12 runs from his four overs, but Sam Triffitt (25) and Simon Oxendale (21) built a useful partnership for Heslerton’s second wicket.
Mark Yates (2-14) and Ben Gill (1-36) then combined to restrict the Heslerton total, despite Robbie Thackray’s 20.
Malton’s reply got off to a good start thanks to Linsley’s 24 and Gary Hall top-scored with 36 as they looked to be cruising towards their target.
Jake Keyworth led the fight-back by clean bowling three batsmen, but Malton survived.
