COLIN Frank dominated as Pickering beat Westow in division one of the Beckett Ryedale League.
He smashed 80 runs and was helped by Shaun Smith (22) and Craig Aconley (16) as the Pikes put up 156-6 en route to a 50-run success.
Westow lost early wickets to Carl Suggitt (3-12) and Rob Aconley (2-16) in reply and never really recovered despite a last-wicket stand between B Holtby (39) and A Fothergill (16).
Hovingham openers George Mosey (22) and C Foster (21) gave them a solid platform to build on as they produced a 43-run stand in five overs in their match with Great Habton.
Tom Lund (29) carried on the good work, although Wayne Dawson bowled well for Habton with 2-19 while change bowler Jim Dawson saw two catches help him to 3-11.
Sam Thackray (28) held out against Tom Lund’s four-over spell of 4-14 as the hosts crumbled to 28-4 after five overs of their reply.
Hovingham still held the upper hand after 10 overs but the hosts had the man for the situation as Andy Slaughter cracked an unbeaten 44 which included six fours and two sixes – the last of which delivered the coup de grace with six balls to spare.
P Higginbottom did his best to stem the flow of runs with a 2-27 haul but Hovingham fell by four wickets.
Kirkbymoorside passed Duncombe Park’s 89-8 without losing a wicket in reply. Park lost two early wickets before Brian Leckenby (23) and Peter Kent (19) steadied things.
But once these two departed, wickets fell at regular intervals. S Walker finished with 3-14, Mark Fairweather 3-35 and H Mudd 2-16.
In reply, Jodie Robson hit 57, which, with Andy Marley’s 27, was enough to secure the win.
In division two, a wide off the final delivery of the match, with the last pair at the wicket, gave Ample-forth a nail-biting win over Ryedale.
Ryedale got off to a steady start through Sam Burns (27) and Ryan Boyes (25). But once they lost a wicket, things soon went down hill and they only got to their total of 90 thanks to 15 wides. J Ellis returned 2-11, J Fox 2-19 and J Skelton 2-30.
Ampleforth lost both openers in Jason Feaster’s two overs.
Then C Cox took control of matters scoring 35 in quick time before being bowled by Alex Ibbotson’s first ball. Ampleforth then struggled but the last-ball wide gave them the win by one wicket. Feaster finished with 3-18, Ibbotson 3-17 and Boyes 2-2.
It was also a close affair between Thornton-le-Dale and Whitwell with the latter just failing to hit the nine runs required from the last over.
Tim Hodgson top-scored for Dale with 34 and Lewis White (26) also provided a valuable contribution in their 108-5. R Harrison (3-26) bowled well for Slingsby.
S Badge (26), D Coates (24) and Harrison (22) took Whitwell to the verge of a win but they were thwarted by Iain Farrow, who returned 3-18, and fell three runs short.
Elsewhere, Swinton and Broughton (84-4) beat Slingsby (87-2) by six wickets, while Norton Grange (96-2) saw off Burythorpe by eight wickets with Matt Beckett’s 66 not enough for Burythorpe.
Thornton (75-5) beat Ampleforth (72 all out) by five wickets.
