STAXTON missed out on the chance to catch up in the Scarborough & District Beckett League premier division after late drama.
With the top two Cloughton and Ebberston seeing their match abandoned, Staxton could have closed the gap at the top of the table.
But they were beaten by Foords on the very last ball of the match.
Batting first, Staxton scored 208-9 with James Armstrong hitting 37 and Chris Dove 33.
Paul Bowes’ magnificent 111, however, set Foords on the road to victory.
Andy Burrell added 36 and, with the scores level and only one ball to be bowled, last man Tom Watson held his nerve to scramble a single gaining victory for the Filey-based side. Dove picked up 3-36 for the home team.
Sherburn allowed Staithes to move off the bottom of the table when losing by 29 runs. In a match reduced to 43 overs, Staithes posted a total of 247-9.
In reply, Sherburn raced to 87-1 in the first 10 overs and, after good innings from Kev Metcalfe (49), Richard Woodhead (53), Dan Simpson (41) and Daley Wharton (28no), the result was in doubt until they faltered late on, Simon Bowes taking 6-59.
Rain was the winner in the match between Forge Valley and Kirkbymoorside at East Ayton – leaving Valley picking up eight points and Kirkby 10.
In division ‘B’, Cayton 2nds moved back into second place behind Lockton after beating Ryedale on their Pickering ground by 105 runs.

Martin Thistle (67), Mark Estill (37) and an unbeaten 29 from Ryan Braithwaite were the home team’s principle scorers as Lockton’s Mike Brown claimed 3-33.
Thistle then showed his power with the ball claiming 6-21. With Bill Estill taking 3-37, Lockton were left ten runs adrift despite Mathew Firth’s 30.
The other three matches, including Staxton 2nds’, Thornton-le-Dale’s, and Brompton’s clash with Wold Newton, all fell victim to the weather.
Division ‘C’ saw Ebberston 2nds lose by nine wickets at Cloughton 2nds. The visitors were bowled out for 75 having little answer to Michael Readman, who claimed 6-36, and Adrian Owenson (3-17).
They knocked off the runs for the loss of just one wicket – Sean Exley remaining unbeaten on 53.
Ganton lost ground on the leaders and were replaced in second spot by Hospitals, who beat them by six wickets.
