Beckett League Premier Division
Promoted Sherburn was brought down to earth after beating champions Staxton last week. They were well beaten at home by Flixton 2nds. Sherburn took first knock but the strong batting side failed to fire with only Craig Sanderson 31 and Daley Wharton, who remained unbeaten with 25 threatening a more challenging total as Andrew Ryan claimed 4-16 for the visitors. Flixton made light work of chasing the target with Geoff Hill leading the way with an unbeaten 61. John Boddy added 27 and Adam Ditchburn also remained unbeaten with 21 as the total was passed for the loss of one wicket.
Staxton bounced back from last week's defeat to beat Ebberston at Staxton by 26 runs but had to recover from 22-3 thanks to a strong batting performance from James Armstrong 71 and Chris Dove 38. 172-7 after 45 overs was not an overly daunting total for the visitors to chase, but they too found runs difficult to score, slipping to 87-8 as Richard Flinton claimed 5-43 and Elliott Cooper bowling a miserly spell of which his first 12 overs conceded only five runs. A late rally from Colin Palmer, recently transferred from York Cricket Club, brought him an unbeaten 33 together with Mike Horsley 26. The pair added 59 for the ninth wicket; leaving the visitors 26 runs adrift when the 45 overs were completed, Elliott Cooper having completed a spell of 16 overs, 8 maidens taking two wickets for 30 runs.
Forge Valley moved to the top of the table by beating Nawton Grange on their East Ayton ground by 7 wickets. Nawton were bowled out for 139, finding Andy Holden in great form picking up 6-18 from 15.2 overs which included eight maidens. The only batting performances of note were from Justin Palmer 28 and John Pickard 26. In reply, Mick Glew hit 33 and Dave Hartley 58, which included four sixes and both Nigel Kendrew and Simon Dobson scored 20 runs each.
Division A
Seamer still await some batting form after being bowled out at Kirkbymoorside for 52 by Howard Mudd 4-22 from 10 overs and Dan Jemmison 4-28 from 11.2 overs. The innings ending after only 24 overs. The home team lost four wickets knocking off the runs. Jodie Robson top scoring with 25 as Gary Lawton picked up 3-23.
Heslerton's openers Paul Nutt and Jake Keyworth put on 62 runs against promoted Lockton on the Heslerton ground before Jake was caught off the bowling of Pete Robson for 34. Paul continued to anchor the innings, being the fifth wicket to fall with his score on 57. Faraz Ul Haq added 35 from 43 balls faced, Sam Triffitt a forcefull 22 before being brilliantly caught and Adam Spaven remained unbeaten on 23 to post a total of 209-6 after 45 overs, Les Welburn proving the most successful bowler taking 3-44. Replying both openers were caught behind by Sam Triffitt off the bowling of Kristian Wilkinson, Andy Hill scoring 9 and Mike Brown 36. Steve Stead 33 and Gareth Hunt 26 forged a fourth wicket partnership of 56 but after Steve was bowled by left arm pace bowler Wilkinson and Gareth was bowled by Adam Spaven, the remainder crumbled to an all out 145, Kristian claiming the fine figures of 6-31.
Division B
Settrington moved to the top of the division after beating fellow promotion hopefuls Snainton by five wickets at Settrington. Snainton took the initiative by dominating the home attack, setting a total of 236-6 thanks to good knocks from brothers Michael Eyre 33 and Stephen 60 with Alex Stockill hitting 53. In reply, Settrington lost their first four wickets for 65 runs but the experienced Martin Jackson, who continued to be unbeaten with 85 and skipper Robert Robinson 75 put together a fifth wicket partnership of 147, taking the home team to the verge of victory.
Brompton were bowled out on their home ground by Thornton-le-Dale for 124 despite Anthony Glaves scoring 64. Star of the visitors attack was Stuart Hill who finished with the excellent figures of 8-55. Andrew Rudd scored 35 replying for Thornton-le-Dale but it was an unbeaten 52 by Tom Sigsworth that ensured their comfortable seven wicket victory.
Promoted Wold Newton gained their first victory beating Fylingdales at Wold Newton by seven wickets. Charlie Gray proved the man in form taking 5-45 with the ball to send Fylingdales back to the pavilion for 126; then when the home team batted scored an unbeaten 52 towards the final total of 132-3. Will Hall added 32.
Shaun Smith 31 and Jason Feaster 26 helped Ryedale to a total of 128, a total that would have been more challenging but for a fine spell of bowling by Sewerby's Pete Baxter who claimed four wickets for 21 runs. Visitors Sewerby lost four wickets knocking off the runs, Ross Harrison scoring 41 and Ian Dennis remained unbeaten with 53.
Ganton recovered from first match blues to beat Cayton 2nds by nine wickets at Cayton. The home team were made to struggle as Bob Carver claimed 6-34 and with James Richardson taking 4-19 Cayton were taking tea with their final total on 74. Ganton wasted little time knocking off the arrears thanks to undefeated knocks by Tim Corrigan 28 and Andrew Limb 36.
Division C
Ebberston 2nds proved too strong for Staxton 2nds who they bowled out for 71 at Ebberston thanks to impressive bowling spells from Rob Ireland 4-18 and Eddie Swiers whose three wickets only cost two runs. The home team relied on ex-first team wicket keeper Ashley Winspear, to put them on the winning track scoring 23 as victory was gained for the loss of five wickets.
Whitby 2nds enjoyed their visit to Nawton Grange 2nds scoring 207-5 from their 45 overs thanks to an unbeaten 84 from Duncan Steele, Andrew Marshall 43 and Rikki Lawrence 32. Nawton, in reply found Steve Crowther in impressive form with the ball taking 6-24 as the home team were bowled out for 87 losing the match by 120 runs.
