Ryedale Sports Club beat Gillamoor 2-1 on Saturday evening at Kirkbymoorside to retain the Victory Cup and complete a memorable Beckett League treble, winning the First Division championship and the Ryedale Hospital Cup.

Gillamoor started well and Paul Brackley had two good chances after seven minutes for Gillamoor. Andrew Cloughton crossed from the right wing for Brackley's first effort, which was blocked by Ryedale's Matty Bower.

His second effort was a 12-yard shot which went just over the crossbar. Two minutes later Ryedale hit back when Chris Rhodes shot from 18 yards but it went wide of the goal.

Then Ben Richardson's left-foot free kick hit a post for Ryedale and John Beever followed up and shot wide from close range. After 13 minutes Richardson centred from the left for Ryedale and Adam Hornby shot wide from 15 yards.

Two minutes later Ryedale's Simon Dale headed the ball goalwards but the Gillamoor keeper Dan Jeminson tipped the ball round for a corner.

Gillamoor had a great chance to take the lead after 22 minutes when Gary Stamper broke clear down the right wing and his perfect cross found an unmarked Andrew Cloughton who headed the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.

Ryedale took the lead after 25 minutes when poor defending by Gillamoor allowed John Beever to cross the ball and Matty Bower to score from close range.

Ryedale's keeper Robert Featherstone made a great save to prevent David Gardner from scoring. As Gillamoor got on top, Nick Hodgson fired the ball over the crossbar from 30 yards. A minute later play switched to the other end and Adam Hornby had a right foot shot go wide.

Gillamoor equalised after 39 minutes and what a goal it was. A good build up allowed player-manager Craig Ibbotson to burst clear and unleash a powerful left foot shot which thundered against the crossbar, and the ball bounced down to Gary Stamper who forced it over the line from close range.

Ryedale's Richardson had a very good chance after 41 minutes but Jeminson saved superbly.

In the second half Gillamoor began to tire a little and after 58 minutes Dave Gardner, who played the whole game with a fairly badly bruised big toe after the cricket ball hit his toe in the afternoon, saw his shot produce a brilliant save from Ryedale's Featherstone.

Ryedale were beginning to get on top in the last 20 minutes. Gardner had a deep right-wing cross which Featherstone did very well to save, and two minutes later Paul Brackley and Andrew Claughton got vital blocks in to prevent a goal.

Ryedale won the cup with an 81st minute goal scored by skipper Heath Brown as the ball bobbled into the goal off a post and keeper Jeminson's hand.

Man of the match winners were Heath Brown in the centre of midfield for Ryedale SC and the Gillamoor award was shared between Simon Baum at centre half and keeper Dan Jeminson.

After the game the victory cup and individual awards were presented by management committee member Richard Allardice.

The first division championship award and individual trophies were presented to Ryedale SC and runners-up trophies to Kirkbymoorside Reserves by the league president and treasurer Bob Pettitt.

Last night the Marisa Sports Trophy Final was due to be played at Kirkbymoorside between Old Malton 3rds and Rosedale. Old Malton 3rds last won the trophy in season 1996-97 and Rosedale were the second ever winners back in 1988-89.

In last Saturday's semi-finals, Old Malton 3rds won 4-0 at Slingsby with all the action in the second half. Dean Leadill put Old Malton ahead with the 55th minute penalty which saw Slingsby reduced to 10 men when they had playmaker Mark Carris dismissed . Josh Freer added a second goal before a brace of Robbie Baker goals completed the goal scoring for Old Malton 3rds. Baker was sent off just before the final whistle.

Man of the match winners were Jamie Ward for Slingsby and Rob Baker playing in the centre of midfield for Old Malton.

The second semi-final saw Rosedale beat Thornton-le-Dale Reserves 3-1. John Tindall scored a goal either side of half-time for Rosedale but just before the second goal Thornton-le-Dale equalised when Joe Wootton set up Jake Fletcher. Rosedale's Martin Myers completed the scoring.

Man of the match for Rosedale was centre-back Stuart Dowson and Joe Wootton won the Thornton-le-Dale award.

The final league game was played last Wednesday when Thornton-le-Dale beat Kirkdale United 2-1. The home side Thornton-le-Dale cruised into a two goal first half lead with a goal each scored by Paul Grayson and Andrea Lozinca. Kirkdale United, who could only manage 10 men, scored a second-half goal by Michael Turnbull.

Man of the match winners were Paul Grayson (Thornton-le-Dale) and Shane Monkman (Kirkdale).

On Monday night at Thornton-le-Dale the final of the Panasonic League Division Two Cup was held, St Clement's 3rds beating Duncombe Park 2-1 in an end-to-end thriller watched by a crowd of 78.

Duncombe Park took the lead after three minutes when Craig Newton supplied a good pass to Martin Grayson who found Christian Ardisonne who ran on and shot under the St Clement's keeper Matty Stables.

St Clements equalised after 31 minutes when a right-wing cross by Gareth Moore was met by skipper Lee Nicholas with a bullet header from 15 yards.

St Clement's' winning goal came after 75 minutes when Shaun Webster scored at the second attempt. His first effort was partially saved but he followed up and made sure the second time.

The trophies were presented after the game to both teams and the cup to skipper of St Clement's Lee Nicholas by Rob Wilkinson of Television House, Pickering, the sponsors of this competition.

Man of the match winners were Craig Newton (Duncombe Park) and Stuart Cuthbert for St Clement's 3rds.

After the presentation, the second division League Championship trophy and individual awards were presented to Bagby and Balk players with skipper Darren Bell receiving the cup from management committee member of the RJF Homes Beckett Football League, Robin Wilkinson.

Ryedale Sports Club Reserves players also received their runners-up awards - a fine achievement at the end of the first season.
