DARYL Mitchell scored his third hundred in this season’s Specsavers County Championship to help Worcestershire grab their clash with Yorkshire by the throat at Scarborough.

Mitchell shared an unbroken 124 partnership with his captain Moeen Ali for the second wicket as the visitors responded to Yorkshire’s 216, reaching an early tea on day two because of rain at 235-1 in the 70th over.

Watchful Mitchell and his top-order colleagues Moeen and Tom Fell have navigated testing conditions.

Mitchell shared century stands with them both - Fell made 45 and Moeen is unbeaten on 66.

He reached his century off 191 balls before driving his next ball off Adam Lyth through the covers for four to take Worcester into the lead at 217-1.

Rain took the players off at about 3.20pm, signalling an early tea.

When play does resume, Mitchell will be on 109.

Yorkshire have gone through the afternoon wicketless.
