YORKSHIRE, defending a first-innings total of 342, have taken two morning wickets as Surrey reached lunch on day two on 89-2 at Scarborough in the Specsavers County Championship.

Ben Coad had Mark Stoneman caught behind for nine before Tim Bresnan had Scott Borthwick dismissed the same way for 20, albeit off a top-edged pull.

Surrey skipper Rory Burns reached 50 off 46 balls with 11 fours and will begin the afternoon unbeaten on 54.

An action-packed morning saw Yorkshire advance their first-innings from 299-8 overnight to 337 all out.

Jack Brooks hit 27 and Steve Patterson 21, sharing a 61 stand for the ninth wicket before falling in the space of three balls to Jade Dernbach to wrap up the innings.

But Yorkshire have been awarded five penalty runs to boost their total following two Level One offences committed by Surrey.

One was in the field this morning and the other Stoneman’s reaction to being given out, a decision he made it clear that he disagreed with.
