MARTYN Moxon has bemoaned Yorkshire's close losses in their NatWest T20 Blast campaign after they failed to reach the quarter-finals on Friday.

Moxon described the competition as "hugely frustrating" but insisted the Vikings were not far away from a positive outcome.

Yorkshire won six, lost five, tied one and had two no results in their 14 games, finishing fifth in the North Group and two points outside the all-important top four.

Wins for Derbyshire, Birmingham and Leicestershire on Friday meant they leapt above the white rose county to join Nottinghamshire in this week's quarter-finals.

Derby and Notts both have home quarter-finals, against Hampshire and Somerset tomorrow and Thursday respectively.

Yorkshire's disappointment on Friday followed Thursday's stunning win over defending champions Northamptonshire at Headingley when records tumbled.

Adam Lyth posted 161 in a total of 260-4, both English records and close to world records. Northants also failed to qualify.

"We couldn't have done any more by winning that game in the manner we did, so it's hugely frustrating," said Yorkshire director of cricket Moxon.

"We've played good cricket throughout the 14 matches. We had a couple rained off and, as ever with T20 cricket, it's just little patches of matches that win you or cost you the game.

"The games we've lost have been very close and could have gone either way."

Each of Yorkshire's five defeats all went down to the last over, including two to the last ball at Derbyshire and Durham.

But they were top of the group at halfway having won four of seven games, including only one loss, and they should not have missed out.

Yorkshire finished with a net run-rate of 1.127, more than double the next best team in either group.

The county's next match is a four-day County Championship clash with Middlesex at Headingley, starting on Tuesday, September 5.

They do not play in next week's round of matches as six teams complete games in hand.

Yorkshire could be within two points of the relegation zone by the time the Middlesex match starts.
