TIM Bresnan insists Yorkshire's batting can get even better in this summer's NatWest T20 Blast – despite having just posted a record score of 233.

Captain Bresnan has told his players they are capable of breaking the 240 barrier in an innings and that must be a scary thought for opposing teams, starting with beleaguered Durham tomorrow.

Ahead of the Jets' visit to Headingley (6.30pm), they have lost all four of their North Group matches and sit bottom of the table with minus four points following the ECB's penalties imposed for financial problems.

A Yorkshire win would see them clinch their third on the spin at home, as well as their fourth from seven games in all.

They may be knocked off top spot in the group by Lancashire, who play at Derbyshire tonight, but things are looking good for a Vikings side who have posted scores of 227-5 and 233-6 in two of their three home matches so far this season.

The latter came in Sunday's 37-run win over Worcestershire, when not even Ross Whiteley's six sixes in an over off Karl Carver could derail Bresnan and his team.

"We can definitely improve on that batting performance," said the stand-in skipper ahead of a televised match which marks the halfway stage in their group campaign.

"We'll have a look at the stats and see where – but I've said 240 is not out of our reach with the explosiveness we've got all the way down.

"Whether we get there or not, who knows. If we're getting over 200, we've certainly got the bowling to be able to defend it.

"The players have turned up and played some unbelievable cricket. We did exactly what we wanted to do against Worcestershire.

"We wanted to bat first, even with the weather around. You can't really control that. Our strength is probably batting first. To get 230-odd, you shouldn't get that chased down.

"The team is going out and playing exactly how I want them to and I'm pretty happy. It will only be small things where we can improve.

"The fielding, we had one which went through our legs (against Worcester) but it didn't really make much difference. We still won by 30.

"We won't count our chickens because we've still got to play good cricket against whoever's in front of us. But if we keep turning performances in like that, we'll be fine.

"All the way through my career, I've never really been one to look at league tables and things like that. We'll just control what we can on the day and others will do what they do."

Yorkshire have plenty of players in form at present and chief among them is England limited-overs all-rounder David Willey, who has hit scores of 70 and 118 in his last two outings.

Bresnan said: "For a bloke to get a hundred is absolutely outstanding. I take my hat off to him. It was unbelievable striking.

"It doesn't matter who bowls at him, he just fancies a piece of them. That's a great attitude to have in this form of the game."

Following tomorrow's clash, Yorkshire have two away fixtures on the bounce as they travel to Edgbaston to face Birmingham Bears on Friday and then tackle Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on Sunday.
